The Champernowne Library: Research Opportunity

The Champernowne Library comprises numerous books and others texts from the original collection of Dr Irene Champernowne, added to in more recent years by generous donations by Dr Anthony Stevens.

Of particular academic interest are two separate sets of archival material: a collection of mainly unpublished or privately published works and pamphlets, including notes of lectures by CG Jung, and higher degree dissertation and theses; secondly, an archive of Irene Champernowne’s papers comprising her PhD thesis, reports and surveys, essays and lectures, interview notes, letters and documents relating to the Withymead therapeutic community, Irene Champernowne’s autobiography, correspondence including letters from CG Jung, Toni Wolff, HG Baynes, EA Bennet, Dorothy and Leonard Elmhirst of Dartington, and others.

The trustees are keen to see this wealth of historical material used for research purposes, perhaps as part of a higher degree study, or with a view to the publication of a comprehensive account of the archive contents.

We would be interested to receive applications, or expressions of interest, from suitably qualified candidates wishing to undertake such research.
